Valentine Gift Tutorials

Hi!!!! I hope you're enjoying the blog hop! It's been so much fun, and the projects were just amazing. My Blog Hop post is here.

Here are the tutorials for 2 of the projects I made for yesterday. Enjoy! Let's start with that sweet little pillow box.

Supplies
Diecutting Machine (Big Shot or Cuttlebug)
"
What's Up Cupcake" stamp set by My Favorite Things
1/2 sheet Riding Hood Red cardstock
scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock for the tag
Chocolate Chip taffeta ribbon
scrap of Chocolate Chip cardstock for the punched heart
red Prima flower
Vintage brads
Candle Light Shimmerz
paintbrush
Chocolate Chip ink
Memento
Tuxedo Black ink
sponge
paper piercer
Ribbon Tags Trio die by Spellbinders
Pillow box die by Sizzix
"
Swiss Dots" Cuttlebug Embossing folder
Scor-Tape
Mini Pop Dots

1) Using the "Swiss Dots" embossing folder, with several passes to cover the entire piece of cardstock, emboss your 1/2 sheet of Riding Hood Red cardstock.
2) Place that bumps up on the Pillow Box die and run it thru your diecutting machine.

3) Using a very strong adhesive....I've used Scor-tape, but Stampin' Up!'s Sticky Strip works too, apply it to the tab on the box.
4) Holding the tab flat to the box, assemble together.
5) Very carefully turn in one end, fill your box with treats, and turn in the other end.
6) Using a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and one of the dies from the Ribbon Tags Trio, cut and emboss your tag.
7) Leaving it in the die, use a sponge and apply Chocolate Chip ink to the exposed area.
8) Remove from the die and stamp your saying in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
9) Punch out a heart shape from the Chocolate Chip cardstock and paint with Candle Light Shimmerz. Allow to dry fully or you will have Shimmerz fingers.
10) Using a paper piercer of push-pin pierce a hole in the middle of the heart. Using a brad attach it to the Prima flower.
11) Thread your ribbon thru your tag, wrap it around the box and tie. Attach the Prima flower with a mini pop dot.

Ghiradelli Box
Supplies
Full Sheet of Riding Hood Red cardstock
2-1/4" x 2" piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock
"Swiss Dots" Cuttlebug Embossing folder
Martha Stewart "Arch Lattice" border punch (I purchased mine at my local Michael's Store)
Mini glue dots
Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon
Prima flowers in red and chocolate
Vintage brads
heart embellishment by Joann's Essentials
Candle Light Shimmerz

1) Follow the directions from SCS to score your cardstock for the box. Ghiradelli Box
2) Before assembling, emboss the flap using the "Swiss Dots" Embossing folder and punch using the Arch Lattice border punch.

3) Assemble the box per directions.
4) Paint 2 of the flowers, the biggest and smallest, with Candle Light Shimmerz. Allow to dry fully. Assemble together with a brad.
5) Tape Chocolate Chip cardstock to the front of the box.
6) Wrap with Riding Hood Red Taffeta ribbon securing on the front where the flower will be.
7) Attach flowers and heart with mini glue dots.
8) Fill your box and enjoy!
I hope you've enjoyed these tutorials. If you give it a whirl, leave me a link as I'd love to come see your creations.

1 Sketch, 2 Cards

I've been so busy this week that I haven't been able to the weekly PCP Sketch challenge. This week Jessica is hosting (it was her birthday this past weekend so pop in and say Happy Birthday) and there's a giveaway! A free Gina K. Designs set worth up to $19.95!!!! And you know me and my love for all things Gina K!!!!

So, I have been wanting to play with all my new stamps, so I ended up taking this sketch and making 2 cards with it. One with my new Stampin' Up! "Branch Out" set and the other with my new Gina K. Designs set "Best Fishes". I made the first card with the thought of doing an SUO card, only to realize the paper I was using got retired on the 19th.....doh! Oh well....I try. It's still mostly SUO though. I'm loving this new set "Branch Out". It's so simple! This whole card came together from start to finish during the 10 mins I was talking to my mom tonight. Wanna know why? No coloring involved!!! Just stamp and done. I haven't really done that in awhile so it was a nice change. I used my Gelly Roll glitterpen on the little butterflies for a little added bling.

Details
Stamps: "Branch Out" by Stampin' Up!
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Basic Grey, Brocade Blue, Garden Green
Paper: Night of Navy, Garden Green, Prestwick DSP
Accessories: Gelly Roll Clear Star glitter pen, Chocolate Chip double-stitched grosgrain ribbon

The second card I really had fun with. The Prismacolor pencils I ordered arrived on Wednesday and I haven't been able to play with them yet, so this is my first card using them with baby oil to blend. I'd use Gamsol, but I don't have any and I'd worry about having it in the house with my 2 crazy cats running around.
I mean, how cute is this???? The little fishy is just too adorable for words and I'm glad I was finally able to ink him up and play. I even managed to put him in a little fish bowl. Although it looks nothing like the any of the 4 tanks I have. Yep, 4! 1-2.5gal Betta tank, 1-30 gal goldfish tank, 1-10 gal tropical tank and 1-75 gal "I love fish" tropical tank. The 75 gal tank is in my family room and I love it!!!! I have so many very cool fish in there...and it's self-maintaining at this point because of the type and variety of fish I've added to it. It's just cool to watch them all interact from my big Blood Parrot to my shy little loaches.

Anyhoo.....back to the matter at hand. Here's a closeup shot of the fish. I added white and glitter highlights for an added pop. The main background paper was crumpled up then run thru the Big Shot with the "D'vine Swirl" Cuttlebug Embossing folder then sanded. So fun! And with alittle more practice with the pencils and baby oil I might just get it.
Details
Stamps: "Best Fishes" by Gina K. Designs
Ink: Taken with Teal, Mellow Moss, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: "Urban Prairie" by Basic Grey, Whisper White, Night of Navy
Accessories: "D'vine Swirl" Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Sanding block, Gelly Roll Clear Star glitter pen, Inkssentials White pen, twine, yellow buttons, Prismacolor pencils, baby oil, blending stumps. Classic Circles Nestabilities

MFT Who's That Girl Challenge 1-26-09

I created this card for this week's "Who's That Girl" challenge. The challenge was to use only 2 layers on the card. So, layer to me, mean cardstock or paper. So, I have my base as layer one and the image and sentiment as layer two. The ribbons don't count....at least not in my book, but I may get over ruled on this.
Details
Stamps: "Serenity Now" by My Favorite Things
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Whisper White, Bashful Blue
Accessories: Bashful Blue grosgrain, Bashful Blue double stitched grosgrain ribbon, Whisper White taffeta ribbon, Spellbinders Ribbons Tags Trio die, Pretties flowers, "Swiss Dots" Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Prismacolor Markers

Shannon

Memories

I'm so excited to be one of Melanie's Guest Designer's for this month!!! This is the first card I created for her to feature on her blog. You can see the write-up here along with the Q&A. The funny thing about this card is the idea for it came to me as I was sitting at the Secretary of State's office waiting to renew my driver's license. I used the Dazzling Diamonds technique on the butterflies, which I had cut out by hand. The little butterflies are punched out using the Martha Stewart punch after being covered in Versamark Champagne...which doesn't photograph real well.

Details
Stamps: "The Best Things in Life" and "Take Flight" by Gina K. Designs
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Pacific Point, Versamark, Versamark Champage
Paper: 120lb Pure Luxury CS
Accessories: Whisper White taffeta ribbon, Stampin' Up! Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, self-adhesive rhinestones, Martha Stewart butterfly punch

Cuttlebug Be Inspired #16

Update...We are experiencing some technical difficulties today with the post on the Cuttlebug Challenges blog. Please hang in there while we get it corrected. The post is up now, but it looks like there are still a few bugs to be worked out, so if it's not there when you visit please come back again later to share your creation with us.

It's Cuttlebug Be Inspired Day!!!!! Are you excited? I sure am!!!! The challenge today is to make a distressed card. Come join in the fun at the Cuttlebug Challenges blog. Just make a distressed card with your 'Bug and link it to the post using good ol' Mr. Linky. The folks from Basic Grey will be supplying a prize pack, so go make your card!!! I started out running the red DP thru my Big Shot with the "D'vine Swirl" Cuttlebug Embossing folder. Then I crumpled it up, flatted it out and rubbed Walnut Stain distress ink over it with a stampin' sponge. For the brick wall I inked up the "Bricks Background" stamp with the Walnut Stain distress ink then stamped onto it with uninked leaves from the "Collage Images" sheet to remove ink. I repeated this in several locations. Then I stamped the DP. Then I crumpled it up and flattened it out. I then rubbed some Tea Stain distress ink over it.
The T-shirt is stamped with the Walnut Stain ink, cut out, and the edges rubbed with Antique Linen distress ink. I used my Prismacolor markers to add the shadowing. I added some hardware from We R Memory Keepers, and velvet ribbon from Flourishes.

Details
Stamps: "Little Tees" and "Tee Talk" by Mealanie Muenchinger for Gina K Designs, "Bricks Background" and "Mixed Collage Images" by Staving Artistamps
Ink: Tim Holtz Distess Inks in Walnut Stain, Antique Linen and Tea Dye
Paper: "Ambrosia" by Basic Grey
Accessories: "D'vine Swirl" Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Hardware by We R Memory Keepers, Grey Velvet ribbon from Flourishes, Stampin' Sponges

Do you want a tweak?

One of my customers asked if I could tweak a card for her that she created really quick for a friend. And while the friend was thrilled to get a handmade card, she wasn't so thrilled with how it turned out and asked me to "tweak" it for her. I tried to keep the same design elements as she did on the front with the color scheme, Prima flower, leaves and gemstones.

This is her original card front.....

And this is my version. I added a Bazzil flower under the Prima flower for more size and impact. I also added texture to the base by using both the "Swiss Dots" and "Frills" Cuttlebug embossing folders. I didn't have the leaves she did, so I stamped them on using "A Year of Flowers" set by Gina K. Designs. I kept the same wording on the sentiment, but used a version by H&M Stamps. I then lined up the 3 rhinestones under the sentiment.

Here's her original inside. The only thing I see is "off" here is that it doesn't seem to match with the front of the card she created. (But I've gotta say....I want a pair of shoes like that!!)

Here's the inside I created. I kept the saying simple by using the "Say it with Flowers" set by Gina K. Designs and used the large daisy flower from "A Year of Flowers" colored with Prismacolor Markers to mimic the flower on the front of the card. The cardstock I used was Certainly Celery and Pretty in Pink.

Do you have a card you're not quite thrilled with? One that you think would turn out better if a second set of eyes looked at it? If so, send your picture and supply list my way.

Each card tweaked is $5. You'll get your original card posted here on my blog along with my tweaked version and the supply list for it. Interested? Just click on the "Need a Tweak" button on the right hand side under the Cbox and send me the jpeg of your card along with the items you used.

Hugs,
Shannon

And I'm wiser than I once was....and a bit more mature and motivated to make my dreams come true. So, I guess there are good things that come with age.

And the winner is......

I created this for the Release Party #1 Challenge. The sketch is meant for a scrapbook page, but since I don't scrapbook very much I created this photo holder. I picked up the blank wooden holder at Michael's for $2!!!!! I added the Basic Grey DP to it using Modge Podge. Then I decorated the one side to match the sketch using Melanie's newest set "The Best Things in Life" for the sentiments. I cut them out using the Spellbinder's Ribbon Tags Trio dies. The buttons are also from Basic Grey. I created the image using Gina's "Tropical Flowers" set in Taken with Teal and Always Artichoke.

Release sketch challenge #2

Well....for the card sketch I ventured away from a card and did a bag-a-lope instead. In my mind it just felt right with the cookie stamps. You can find the release party sketch challenge #2 here.

Details later....too tired....

Ok...here are the details. Sorry no close-up pics as then you may be able to see the several places I ripped the bag in the process of making it. Ugh! Maybe my next attempt will go smoother. I sponged a bit of Chocolate Chip ink around the cookie edges to give them more dimension and that yummy darker on the bottom look. The bag also have the cookie image stamped in Very Vanilla....but you can't see it.

Sorry, no cookies inside as I didn't have any, just cupcakes, dark chocolate with dark chocolate icing!!!!! Yum!!!!!!!

Gettin' Messy....

With Gina K!!!!!! This card was created for the "Gettin' Messy" Challenge! You have until Jan. 26th at 9am to make your own messy card for a chance to win a Gina K. Designs gift certificate. The challenge was to use some crumpled, rumpled or just plain ol' ripped. I crumped the paper for the T-shirt before I stamped it. Then I added a bit of Tim Holtz distress ink in Antique Linen around the neck, bottom hem and arms for a bit more age. I distressed the 2 layers for the mat and the tag. And I thought the felt ribbon and fiber added to the "old" look. I used the "Swiss Dots" Cuttlebug folder on the base and swiped "Walnut Stain" distress ink over it.

Shannon
